Walt Disney Imagineering Tribute Banner
This is a
2 sided
split banner that went on a light pole. Size = 3 foot x 8 foot each piece. When combined, it makes a 6x8 foot image. Top and bottom are looped in order to put on horizontal poles. Made of vinyl.
In May 1998 the Monteal's Canadian Centre for Architecture had a show at UCLA Hammer Museum:
Architecture of Reassurance: Designing the Disney Theme Parks . In order to promote this, they created banners to hang from light poles throughout the city. Two Panels (left and right side) showed a model of the EuroDisneyland Castle. Each 3 feet wide by 8 feet tall.
After the show, these banners were made available for purchase to Imagineer cast members.
“For millions at people, Disneyland represents the innocence of childhood. The Disney theme parks bring together a kaleidoscope of sights, sounds, and experiences in an environment that feels comfortable and safe. Indeed, Disneyland's vast popularity and influence have made it a symbol of contemporary American culture, but few of us have noticed the many effects Disney has had on our society. We in Los Angeles – with our proximity to the original Disneyland – have adapted more quickly than the rest of the country to the theme park sensibility. Certainly, our mall culture, rainbow-colored suburbs, and even the tram at the new Getty Museum reflect the special delights of the Magic Kingdom.” - Los Angeles Times 1998
