Walt Disney may have called Disney Legend Ward Kimball a genius but many of his Train Friends just called him a Normal Train Collector!
Ward Kimball’s talents are probably most remembered for his Academy Award film career at the Walt Disney Studio and also for his private collection of full size historical railroad equipment on his Grizzly Flats Railroad in San Gabriel, California. For twenty-two years he was the trombone playing leader of the world renowed jazz band, the Firehouse Five Plus Two. But Ward is quick to point out that creating the toy train covers with trains from his vast collection has provided for him some of the most enjoyable moments in his illustrious career.
This calendar was published by the Toy Train Operating Society and perhaps the way to best explain the history of the calendar is to offer their words: “For over ten years Ward Kimball’s imaginative toy train pictures have graced the covers of the BULLETIN, the monthly publication of the TOY TRAIN OPERATING SOCIETY. Ward’s photos and art work have established a new and colorful dimension to the visual enjoyment of model trains.
