Additional Info:
Flame Fusion, also called the Verneuil process after the French chemist Auguste Verneuil, was the first commercially successful method of manufacturing synthetic gemstones. He developed it in 1902, primarily producing the ruby & sapphire varieties of corundum.
This process was revolutionary in its time and is considered to be the founding step of modern crystal technology. It remains in use to this day.
The man made corundum crystals produced by this method are chemically, optically & physically the same as natural, earth mined crystals. Only gemological testing can determine the difference between the two.
