    Notable Features:
This ring was made in the Retro period of the art deco era in Mexico. Composed of 14k yellow gold, the ring features a large aquamarine stone and many diamond accent stones in the engagement style. The use of such a colorful stone in this ring is a lovely homage to the Hollywood Regency style, which rose to popularity during the Retro period. Eager to show off their wealth and style, Hollywood celebrities and socialites during this time would adorn themselves with glamorous jewelry, usually featuring large and beautiful stones. This ring was inspired by the style of Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, and Tiffany designs that had influenced the Hollywood Regency style, making the viewer think of the likes of Ava Gardner and Katharine Hepburn. The design of the piece, with its center stone and halo of diamonds, suggests it was created as a wedding or engagement ring.
The unique aquamarine stone that adorns the ring showcases a beautiful vibrantly blue hue. The stone is semi-translucent, allowing light to filter through its body, illuminating its brilliant hue. In addition, the stone's cushion faceted cut allows for brilliant sparkle as light reflects from the stone's many facets. The aquamarine rests securely in a yellow gold prong setting, the warm tone of the gold a lovely contrast to the bright blue hue of the aquamarine.
Also adorning the ring are a total of twenty sparkly diamonds. The twenty diamonds surround the center topaz stone in the halo style, adding brilliant sparkle to the piece with their round faceted cuts. The diamonds rest in yellow gold prong settings, the warm hue of the yellow gold contrast beautifully with the diamond's colorless hues. The diamonds make the ring impossible to miss in classic Hollywood Regency style.
Completing the ring is a smooth, polished 14k yellow gold band for comfortable and secure wear. A beautiful tribute to the Hollywood Regency jewelry of the Retro period, this ring would make a valuable addition to any jewelry collection, or for any bride searching for "something old." Don't miss your chance to become a part of this piece's history.
    Damage:
    Age appropriate wear.

    The History
Retro jewelry refers to pieces created in the 1940s and 1950s. This was a period during which jewelry designers were largely influenced by the changes stemming from World War II. These designs reflect an infusion of futuristic vision with elements inspired by preceding periods, encompassing a variety of gemstones, shapes, and materials. Materials used commonly in Retro jewelry are gold, gold alloys, and silver as the wartime put a restriction on the use of platinum. Designs can be masculine, geometric and modern, or softer, more feminine and floral.
The Hollywood Regency style came into fashion during the 1930s, ushered along by the Golden Age of Hollywood. This style was heralded by bright, contrasting colors and modernization of the opulence of Baroque styles, featuring a deliberately frivolous extravagance that screamed glitz and glamour. “Big girls need big diamonds” was taken to heart, and the gorgeous Hollywood stars decked themselves appropriately, with blindingly glittering jewels to showcase their lives of luxury.
A stunning variety of the mineral beryl, aquamarine was named after the Latin word for seawater. Aquamarines with visible flaws are uncommon and the cost of producing synthetic aquamarine is high, therefore most aquamarine gems are natural. Light blue topaz is often mistaken for aquamarine. The large size of its crystal lattice makes many of its specimens ideal for faceting into larger sized gemstones, and thus it is seen in many opulent designs from various periods in time. Royalty commonly favored these large, precious stones. Varying in color from light blue to light green, its subtle beauty carries over well into a wide variety of jewelry styles. The value of aquamarine is often based on how limpid, or clear, it is in appearance.
Diamond is derived from the Greek word, “adamas,” which means “unbreakable.” Diamonds are extremely rare, with the earliest diamonds being discovered in India around the 4th century BC and being traded along the Silk Road; the trade route between India and China. During the latter half of the 18th century, diamonds were discovered in South Africa. Diamonds are renowned for their strength and brilliance of color and ability to reflect and disperse light. This is what gives them such a brilliant sparkle. Colors range in blue, yellow, brown, green, purple, pink, orange, and red; the less color a diamond has, the higher its grade is. Diamonds range from 1 billion to 3.5 billion years old, and because of their age and qualities, have become the symbol for love across many cultures.
